Serakib Black

Syria costumes clothing dresses embroidery traditional Serakib

Occasionally, a Serakib overdress was made with machine stitching, either in the traditional red on black, or in this unusual example, with all black embroidery. This design is common, with eight-petaled flowers sprouting from triangular mountaintops.

It's probable that machine stitched dresses were ordered from professionals rather than being embroidered by the wearer.

This thob was created on a flowing black rayon fabric that wears more easily than the heavy cotton and cotton polyester blends usually seen and may be the reason that a patch was applied under the right sleeve.
