The Dallas/ Fort Worth metroplex is the fastest growing area in the country for New Americans, who comprise 44% of the North Texas population. However, due in part to the dearth of citizenship classes, only 19 % of the region’s foreign-born are naturalized citizens, the lowest proportion among 23 metropolitan areas.

Gustavo Bujanda, Director of Marketing at Telemundo Dallas shares his excitement for the classes, “For the millions of immigrants who, over the past 20 years, have made the DFW metroplex their home, there is no better way to fully be a part of our city than to prepare for and obtain U.S. citizenship. As citizens, we are fully enfranchised to organize, opine and even participate in all aspects of our collective present and future. Telemundo-Dallas is honored to be a partner with DFW International Community Alliance in helping to make the dream of U.S. citizenship possible for our immigrant communities."

“In the entire City of Dallas we know of only one citizenship class, and it has a waiting list” says Anne Marie Weiss-Armush, President of DFW International Community Alliance.  “As the fee for the naturalization exam is $700, a week’s salary for many, and applicants have only two chances to pass the exam, our Telemundo Citizenship Classes will help dozens of our neighbors toward greater opportunities and engagement in American civic life.”
